How does I-PASS work? As your vehicle travels through a toll plaza, a radio antenna sends a signal to your I-PASS transponder that triggers the deduction of a toll from your account.
Illinois's I-Pass system costs $30 to obtain, a $10 refundable deposit and $20 prepaid tolls. The minimum balance is $20, and the account auto-replenishes 10% of the average monthly usage or a minimum of $10. There is no annual fee for the I-Pass.
Once registered to your I-PASS account, the I-PASS Sticker Tag will be immediately ready to use on the Illinois Tollway and within 24 hours on the Chicago Skyway or other E-ZPass roadways.
