Most parents worry and for good reason. Some people might worry to different degrees, but no matter what there's nothing wrong with being concerned about the safety of your child, no matter what their age. Personally speaking, my mother worries a lot about everything so when I told her I was going to leave my office job and become a digital nomad, and that I was moving to Argentina, she was understandably upset. However, thanks to technology, specifically my iPhone, it’s been quite easy to put some of her worries to rest. Don’t get me wrong, she still worries a lot, but not so much when we Facetime almost every day.
In addition to Facetime and iMessages, which we use to keep in touch, the iPhone also has another great feature that isn’t quite as well known: the ability to share your location with friends and family members. Location sharing is incredibly accurate and it’s been a great help to show my family exactly where I am and where I’m going.
Whether it's with a parent or relative, a significant other, or a good friend, you can either send your location one time or choose to share your location for a certain period of time in a few easy steps.
From your messages screen choose the person you’d like to share your location with. Once you’ve selected a contact from your messages, tap “Details” in the top right corner. Tap “Send My Current Location”. A map with a pinpoint of your current location will be sent.
From your messages screen choose the person you’d like to share your location with. Once you’ve selected a contact from your messages, tap “Details” in the top right corner. Tap “Share My Location” and you will be prompted if you want to share for one hour, until the end of the day, or indefinitely. Tap whichever time period you’d like to share your location for.
It doesn’t matter whether you’re moving to a new city, starting an epic journey, meeting someone for a first date, or just going to hang out with some friends. This is a great life hack to keep you safe while you’re out and about and also put your loved ones' minds at ease.
